Canton, NY – Matthew Russell posted an impressive round of 3-over par, 75, in extremely windy conditions to finish in second place individually out of 46 golfers on Friday at the SUNY Canton Invitational at Partridge Run Golf and Country Club.

Russell finished just one stroke back of Clarkson University's Andrew Leek who finished at 2-over, 74. St. Lawrence University's Wesley Dixon and William Wilson tied for third with a pair of 76's, while the Saints Bryan McLennan and Tom Egbers recorded a 78 and 79, respectively.

Tom Rancour tied for 12th place with an 82, Devin Paige posted an 84 (T-19) and Josh Marshall rounded out the Canton top four with an 86 (T-27). Azzatt Almasri (86), Brendan Kanoza (91), Nick Messerschmidt (94) and Nick Owens (98) also competed for the Roos.

St. Lawrence won the team title with 309 strokes, a tremendous score given the blustery conditions. Clarkson University's A team finished in second with a 321, Clarkson's B team posted a 326 followed by SUNY Canton with a 327. The Saints B team posted a 334, SUNY ESF tallied a 341, SLU's C team a 348 and SUNY Potsdam a 349 to round out the eight team field.

The men's golf team returns to the links on Saturday when it takes part in the opening round of the two-day Utica College Invitational at Yahnundasis Golf Club.
