(Canton, N.Y.)- Despite a career-high 11 saves from freshman goalie Colleen Fagan (Bath, N.Y.) the SUNY Canton women’ s soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Johnson State College Sunday afternoon in Canton.
Fagan kept the game close with several spectacular saves in the first half. Nearing the midway point Fagan made a diving stop to her right to keep the ball out of the goal. With time winding down the Badgers again made a charge with a flurry of shots, but Fagan blocked three straight point blank attempts and as the last one trickled towards the goal mouth she was able to dive on the ball and gain control.
The Roos, coming off a 6-0 win over Vermont Technical College on Saturday, had several good offensive opportunities in each half but the Badgers back line held strong and protected goalie Kelley Lucie who had two saves for the shutout.
“Unfortunately we just didn’t have the energy that we had on Saturday,” said head coach Kate Thomas-Moody. “Colleen made some outstanding saves and really kept us in the game.”
Allison Bataille scored both goals for the Badgers.
SUNY Canton (3-5) is off this week and return to action next weekend when they host the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Friday, Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m.
