Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) scored her third goal of the season as the women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting St. Michael's College on Friday evening.

After a tight battle over the first two periods of play the visiting Purple Knights (2-6-0) used three scores in the final frame to earn the victory. Both teams went scoreless over the first 20 minutes as Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) and Abby Burke combined to stop 18 shots.

St. Michael's broke through 6:32 into the middle period when Fernanda Saavedra found Erin Dwyer for her fourth tally of the season. The Roo penalty kill unit came up big killing off a pair of infractions late in the second stanza to remain within 1-0 after two.

Amanda Kempainen scored her team-leading sixth of the season just 39 seconds into the third period, which would prove to be the eventual game-winner. Jillian Witwicki added a power play score at 12:54 and less than a minute later Saavedra made it 4-1.

Carroll responded 30 seconds later to get the Roos (1-8-1) on the board off passes from Tia Mitchell (Akwesasne, NY) and Margret Troiano (Morristown, NY). The Purple Knights were whistled for a pair of penalties at the 17:12 mark giving the Roos a 5-on-3 opportunity but the St. Michael's PK unit hung tough.

Kieffer stopped 22 shots in 53:41, before Rebecca DiNardo (Ottawa, ON) came on in relief to stop the only shot she faced in the final 6:19. Burke turned aside 33 shots for the Knights.

Troiano led all players with seven shots on goal in the game, while assistant captain Abbey Diabo (Kahnawake, QUE) challenged Burke six times. Dwyer paced St. Michael's with six shots on target. SUNY Canton held a 32-24 advantage in the faceoff circle and 34-27 edge in shots on goal.

The Roos return to their home ice Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when they host Hamilton College.
