York, PA – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball combined for 24 aces as the team swept a pair of matches on Saturday to finish the weekend 3-1 at the York College Invitational.
The Roos (8-8) swept King's College (9-5) 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-13) before taking down Wilson College (0-9) in straight sets 3-0 (25-3, 25-3, 25-19).
Game 1
SUNY Canton hit .293 in the match with 34 kills compared to just five errors on 99 attempts. The Roos produced at least 11 kills in all three sets to earn the sweep.
Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) posted 14 kills hitting .414 (14-2-29), while Shea Norton (Batavia, NY) was also extremely effective hitting .400 (13-1-30). Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) assisted 31 putdowns, while Jenna Roat (Penfield, NY) recorded a team-best 14 digs. Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) chipped in six digs and five kills.
Game 2
The service line made the difference for the Roos in the nightcap as they pinpointed 15 service aces compared to three for Wilson. Jenifer Morgan-Aubin (Hartford, NY) led the way with nine aces compared to just two service errors, while Jordan Dormady (Kinderhook, NY) and Jocelyn Racette (Port Kent, NY) added four and two aces, respectively.
Cornish did not commit a single error in 15 swings hitting .533 (8-0-15), while Dormady and Norton combined for five kills. Riley paced the Roos with nine assists, while Robinson finished with six set-ups in one set.
The Roos return to action next weekend in the Canton Classic with games at crosstown St. Lawrence University on Friday followed by a pair of home games on Saturday. SUNY Canton opens play v. the Saints on Friday at 4 p.m.
