(Winter Haven, Fla.) – The SUNY Canton baseball team pulled off a strong late-game rally to force extra innings against Milwaukee School of Engineering, but eventually fell to the Raiders 16-13 in 10 innings in their final spring training game in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Roos banged out 18 hits Saturday morning, and scored nine runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more in the bottom of the ninth to extend the game.

Freshman Eddy Morel (Lake Worth, Fla.) laced three singles, drove in two runs and also scored for SUNY Canton (1-7). Freshman Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) went 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Junior Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, two runs and a double. Freshman Kyle Sacks (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had four RBIs. Sophomore Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) added three singles, Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, Ontario) had two and senior Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) contributed a double. The Roos used five pitchers in the game.

The Raiders got off to a fast start with an eight-run second inning, and then stretched their lead to 12-1 after four innings. SUNY Canton got one run back in the bottom of the fifth, and then exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull within 12-11. In the ninth, Sacks reached on a fielder’s choice and Jones and Morel singled, and then Hunneyman brought them all home with a double. The Roos loaded the bases again when freshman Braden Giffin (Lake Worth, Fla.) walked and Hill singled. Junior Nick Belile (Norwood, N.Y.) then plated Hunneyman with a single, and Giffen scored when Darling was hit by a pitch. The Roos scored their final four runs of the inning on two Milwaukee errors, as Hill, Belile, Darling, and freshman Cody Ploughman (Barrie, Ontario), who entered as a pinch runner, all came around to cross home plate.

Milwaukee scored one run in the top of the eighth inning and the Roos trailed 13-11 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Darling led off with a double and then scored on an RBI-single from Sacks, who then moved to second on a single by Jones. Morel than ripped a single to bring Sacks home and tie the game 13-13 and put Jones on third with the winning run. Hunneyman then drew a walk to load the bases, but the Raiders got out of the jam turning a double play on the Roos next batter to end the inning. Milwaukee then posted three runs in the top of the 10th inning to earn the victory.

Sophomore Travis Legacy (Malone, N.Y.) had one strikeout in four innings. Sophomore Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, N.Y.) had two strikeouts in three innings.

The Roos return to action when they play a pair of doubleheaders at Penn State Greater Allegheny March 16 and 17.
