Roos men's lacrosse cruises past Lyndon State, 22-3

Canton, NY – Visiting Lyndon State got on the board first but the Roos rattled off 12 straight scores defeating the Hornets, 22-3, Saturday afternoon in Canton.

After Lyndon State scored two minutes in seven different Roos found the back of the net in the first quarter leading 8-1 after one. SUNY Canton outscored the Hornets 6-1 in the second stanza to open up a 14-2 advantage at intermission.

Tanner Pratt (Canton, NY), Jack Keenan (Brasher Falls, NY), Cam Carter (Colonie, NY) and Taylor Caswell (Potsdam, NY) led the Roos offensively with two goals each in the opening 30 minutes of play. SUNY Canton held a 29-3 shots on goal edge in the opening half.

The Roo defense continued to dominate while the offense controlled the game. SUNY Canton nearly held the Hornets scoreless the entire second half as they scored with just 28 seconds remaining.

SUNY Canton outscored Lyndon State 8-1 after halftime. Pratt led the Roos offensively with four goals and three assists, while Devin Gruneisen (Potsdam, NY) and Keenan each scored three times. Jason Thompson (Massena, NY) finished with two goals and four assists, while 11 players scored and 12 had points for SUNY Canton. Dominic DiTommaso scored twice for Lyndon, while Billy Bazyk had a goal and assist.

Four different goalies played one quarter each for the Roos. Corey Spuck (Rochester, NY) got the win and did not face a shot on goal, while Dylan Dix (Rochester, NY) came in making one save in the second quarter. Jeff Hammond (Rensselaer Falls, NY) turned aside five shots in the third quarter, while Matt Brady (South Glens Falls, NY) closed out the game with six saves. Marcus Bessette started stopping 15 shots in 28:15, while Shane Morin replaced him making eight saves.

The Roos controlled a number of statistical categories including: shots on goal (45-14), ground balls (64-38), face-offs (19-9) and extra-man goals (5-0). SUNY Canton returns to action Wednesday when it travels to take on Medaille College at 6:00 p.m. The Hornets visit SUNY Maritime Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. start.
