Chestnut Hill, MA – The SUNY Canton men's basketball team played a back-and-forth battle on the road but fell in the final seconds, 97-93, to host Pine Manor College on Friday evening.

Junior Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) hit a pair of free throws with 3:05 remaining to tie the game at 91 apiece. The Gators (12-8) responded with an offensive put back from Ellis Reid with 2:02 remaining, but once again the Roos (12-3) responded off a Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) steal as Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY) finished in transition off a pass from Kazre Cummings (Providence, RI).

Pine Manor took the lead for good with 16 seconds remaining as Reid converted another second chance basket hitting the offensive glass. The Roos had two good looks in the closing seconds as Annorh missed a three-pointer for the lead with nine seconds left and Fletcher couldn't get his put back to go with six seconds remaining. Reid proved to be the hero icing the game with a pair of makes from the charity stripe with five ticks left on the clock.

Fletcher led all players with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Annorh added 20 points and eight assists. Pickett was impressive with 19 points in 25 minutes off the bench hitting on seven of his 12 field goal attempts. Walt Jeter (Fort Drum, NY) chipped in with eight points and 10 rebounds, while Cummings added six points and seven boards.

The Gators led by as many as 11 points in the opening half after a pair of three-pointers from Chancie Williams. The Roos closed the half on a 20-9 run to trail by just a single point at 51-50 at intermission.

Neither team led by more than six points in the second half in a tight battle down the stretch. Williams led Pine Manor with 20 points, while Rasheed Bell added 19 in the scoring column. Reid posted a big double-double with 18 points and 17 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass. Tank Roberson and Curtis Hyman posted 16 points each.

SUNY Canton turned the ball over 23 times which led to a 28-19 advantage for the hosts in points off turnovers. The Roos held the upper hand in bench scoring, 32-8.

The men's basketball team will continue play in the Pine Manor College Tournament on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. when it squares off with Fisher College.
