(Gulf Shores, Ala.)- SUNY Canton lost to MidAmerica Nazarene University (Kan.) 8-0 in their second game of the NAIA Softball national championship at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Alabama on Friday.

The Roos (20-15) play their final game of pool play on Saturday against Friends University (Kan.) at 2 p.m. EST.

Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.) and Emiley Walters (Lancaster, N.Y.) both went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles for the Roos.  Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) singled once and Jenifer Shaw (Helendale, N.Y.), Vickie Lynch (Howard Beach, N.Y.), Lyndsay Coppola (Lindenhurst, N.Y.), and Carolina Olivares (Adelanto, Calif.) each drew a walk.

The two teams battled to a scoreless draw after two innings, but then the Pioneers scored three runs in the third inning and then secured the win with five runs in the fifth inning.

The Roos placed runners in scoring position in both the first and second innings, and then threatened to put runs on the board in the fourth inning.  Danielle Callahan (Kingston, N.Y.) reached safely on a fielder's choice in the fourth with one out and then moved to second base on a DeLuca single.  Walters then laced a two-out single single to shallow left field and Callahan tried to stretch out an extra base but was thrown out at home.

DeLuca allowed 10 hits and one walk in five innings on the mound on Friday.

Lynsey Keith ripped a pair of doubles and drove in one run to lead the Pioneers.  Kayla Harris recorded the win as she allowed five hits with one strikeout in four innings.  MidAmerica Nazarene will play Cal Baptist University in their final game of pool play on Saturday.
