CANTON--Chris Cumella (Webster, N.Y.) knocked in a pair of goals helping the SUNY Canton men's soccer team hold off the University of Maine at Presque Isle 2-1 Sunday afternoon in Canton.
The Roos turned in another solid defensive effort as they held the Owls to just four shots on goal. SUNY Canton has now won three out of their last four games and improved to 3-1 in the Sunrise Conference and 3-4 overall.
Cumella's first goal came in the 29th minute. Dennis Frost (Bridgetown, Nova Scotia) served up a beautiful cross from the right wing that Cumella was able to flick in past Presque Isle goalie Richard Felbaum.
The Owls tied the game in the 35th minute off a goal from Craig Maffei.
Cumella then notched his second game-winning goal of the season scoring unassisted in the 54th minute.
Homero Flores (Taumaulipas, Mexico) had three saves while Felbaum finished with three.
The Roos will host conference opponents the College of St. Joseph and Vermont Technical College next Saturday and Sunday.
