Houghton, NY – The SUNY Canton baseball team posted four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to earn a 4-3 win in the opener and split a doubleheader at Houghton College on Saturday. The Roos fell 15-5 in the nightcap.
The Roos move to 5-16 overall and 2-4 in the Empire 8, while the Highlanders are now 11-12 and 4-6.
Brandon Bautista scored Travis Schindler on an RBI double in the sixth inning in the opener and Collin Lynk scored Francesco Palumbo, Brian Santana and Joseph Dwy on a 3 RBI double in the seventh to lift the Roos to a 4-3 win.
Derrek DuPont earned the win on the mound giving up two earned runs with five strike outs in six innings, while Zack Newman earned the save tossing one inning in relief.
Houghton scored 10 runs in the first inning, but play was even the rest of the way as the Highlanders earned the 15-5 win.
The baseball team returns to the diamond on Sunday when it visits SUNY Cortland for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
