Pittsburgh, PA – Margaret Troiano (Morristown, NY) and Bineh Garrow (Akwesasne, NY) scored their first collegiate goals as the SUNY Canton women's ice hockey team dropped a 9-2 decision to host Chatham University on Sunday.
The Cougars got on the board first at the 5:28 mark when Erika Martin beat Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY). Troiano knotted the game at one on an unassisted marker at the 12:58 mark.
Chatham used three straight scores including one on the power play to open up a 4-1 advantage early in the second. Garrow netted her first collegiate goal with the skater advantage at the 11:50 mark of the second frame to bring the deficit to two. Tia Mitchell (Akwesasne, NY) and Grace Lyon (Brasher Falls, NY) were credited with assists on the play.
The hosts responded with the final five goals of the contest to earn the 9-2 victory. Kieffer made 15 saves before giving way to Peyton Stafne (St. Louis Park, MN)) who turned aside 27 shots in her first career game as a Roo. Megan Buchanan made 19 saves for the Cougars.
The Roos have next weekend off before visiting Sacred Heart University n November 14 at 7:00 p.m.
