Westfield, MA – The SUNY Canton men's cross country edged six teams without standout Austin Johnston (Auburn, NY) as it competed in its largest invitational in program history as 388 runners and 37 teams competed at the James Earley Invitational on Saturday.
The Roos were led by captain Tom Lauzon (Bombay, NY) who turned in a 28:51 performance. Shawn Deibel (Albion, NY) ran the 8-kilometer course in a time of 29:53, while Matthew Lindke (Webster, NY and Josh May (Glenville, NY) packed together finishing within 14 seconds of each other.
Matt Fortin (Liberty, NY) crossed the line just 20 seconds behind May and Cortland Mowery (Elizabethtown, NY) produced a time of 39:38. The Roos finished in 31st place with 919 points. Host Westfield State University won the team title with 55 points.
