Auburndale, FL – The SUNY Canton baseball team split a pair of games with SUNY Oneonta on Florida on Saturday winning game one 12-1 before falling 7-4.

Game One

The Roos (6-4) dominated game one from the start going off for seven runs in the first inning. Austin Hernandez (Loxahatchee, FL) and Kevin Hill (Deerfield Beach, FL) led the Roos with three hits each driving in three runs apiece, while Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, NY) finished with two RBIs.

Hernandez led off the bottom of the first with a single to center field and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Kevin Icaza (Bronx, NY) singled home Hernandez. Hunneyman doubled to center to plate Icaza and Kyle Sacks (Clifton Park, NY) scored Hunneyman with a base hit to left.

Jesse Barton (Belle Glade, FL) reached on an error by the second baseman to plate Braden Giffin (Lake Worth, FL) and Hernandez followed with a single scoring two more runs in Barton and Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, ON).

The Roos added four runs in the third inning. The scoring started with a Hernandez single to center plating Nick Belile (Norwood, NY). Sacks and Hernandez scored on a Hill base knock to left. Hunneyman finished off the inning with a two-bagger to left as Icaza came across home plate.

SUNY Canton closed out the scoring in game one with one run in the fifth as Hill singled to bring home Icaza, which resulted in the 12-1 final. Zach Lawrence (West Palm Beach, FL) finished off the complete game on the mound going seven innings allowing zero earned runs and striking out five.

Game Two

Despite leading 3-0 after the first inning the Roos dropped a 7-4 decision to the Red Dragons in game two. Travis Bigelow (Ottawa, ON) got the start pitching seven innings giving up five earned to go with four strike outs.

Hernandez led the game off with a double to left and advanced an extra base on an error by the left fielder. He would cross the plate for the first run of the game on a passed ball. Icaza then singled to center and moved over to second on a misplay by the pitcher. Hill walked and Hunneyman came up with a base hit to plate Icaza. Giffin then hit into a double play but Hill scored on the play to make it 3-0.

SUNY Oneonta had three straight innings of scoring as they put up one in the fourth and three each in the fifth and sixth innings to take control of the game. SUNY Canton added one run in the sixth as John Mancini (Scotia, NY) scored on a wild pitch but it was not enough as they fell 7-4.
