Plattsburgh, NY – Host Plattsburgh State got off to a quick start and used a four run fifth inning to defeat the visiting SUNY Canton baseball team, 7-2, Friday evening.
The Cardinals (14-22) scored three runs in the first two innings to open up a 3-0 lead after two. The Roos (15-19) responded with one run each in the third and fourth innings to get within 3-2 after four.
Keenan Shannon (Ballston Spa, NY) hit a solo homer to center field in the third followed by a sacrifice fly from Nick Belile (Norwood, NY) to left field in the fourth to plate Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, NY).
Plattsburgh State tacked on four runs in the bottom of the fifth to hold on for the 7-2 victory. Joe Leddy earned his fifth win of the season throwing five innings and giving up one earned run for the Cardinals. Derek Harkin (Ottawa, ON) got the start for the Roos throwing four and two-thirds innings allowing four earned.
The SUNY Canton baseball team is back in action on Sunday with a doubleheader on the road. The Roos take on SUNY Institute of Technology at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday before a 4:00 p.m. contest with Hamilton College.
