Robinson’s 89 assists leads SUNY Canton Women’s Volleyball in split at York

York, PA – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team defeated Albright College in four sets before falling in a thrilling five set match to FDU-Florham in the nightcap of a pair of matches on the opening day of the York Invitational on Friday.

The Roos (6-8) defeated the Lions 3-1 (25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 26-24) before falling to the Devils 3-2 (25-15, 10-25, 21-25, 25-11, 15-13) in the nightcap.

Game 1

Senior Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) tied a match-high with 17 kills in the opener to go with six digs. Sophomore Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) dished out a match-best 47 assists to go with her five digs, while Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) added 15 putdowns. Shea Norton (Batavia, NY) posted 13 kills hitting .313 (13-3-32) and Jenna Roat (Penfield, NY) tallied a match-high 26 digs.

SUNY Canton hit .227 in the match compared to .118 for the Lions (2-8). The Roos posted 16 kills in the third set and hit .333 over the final set (13-2-33).

Game 2

Cornish led all players with 14 kills in the nightcap to go with 16 digs, while Roat was once again strong defensively with 23 digs. Robinson continued to set up the offense to the tune of 42 assists and Norton and Riley added 11 kills apiece. Jenifer Morgan-Aubin (Hartford, NY) was key off the bench with eight kills on 18 attempts and high school classmate Morgan Wicks (Hartford, NY) added nine digs.

FDU-Florham (9-5) got off to a quick start with a 25-15 opening set win but SUNY Canton responded with convincing victories in the second (25-10) and third sets (25-21). The Devils battled back in the fourth set (25-11) before squeaking out the match by the minimum two points in the final frame (15-13).

The Roos return to action on the second day of the York Invitational on Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. match v. King's College followed by a 1:30 p.m. tilt with Wilson College.
