(Presque Isle, Maine)- Junior Joelle Percy (Black River, N.Y.) tossed in a team-high 16 points and senior Kaitlin Myers (Dannemora, N.Y.) posted her fifth double-double powering the SUNY Canton women’s basketball team to a 63-55 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday in Northern Maine.

The Roos won for the fifth time in their last seven games improving to 10-7 overall, while the Owls dropped to 5-12. Saturday’s win also avenged an early season loss to Presque Isle on the Roos home court several weeks ago.

The Roos held the Owls without a field goal for the first eight minutes of the opening half, eventually opening a 24-7 lead. The Owls scored the final seven points of the half and SUNY Canton took a 28-22 advantage into the locker room.

The Owls pulled within three points with an early 5-2 run to start the second half, but the Roos countered with eight straight points, six from sophomore Corrine Riegel (Bainbridge, N.Y.), to put a little more space between the two teams. Presque Isle pulled within four points on two separate occasions, but the Roos converted their free throw chances down the stretch to walk away with the win.

Percy knocked down three 3-pointers and she also grabbed seven rebounds for SUNY Canton. Myers scored 15 points, snagged 13 rebounds and made five blocks. Riegel finished with 12 points and five rebounds, and freshman Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, N.Y.) added eight points and eight boards.

Doni Yendriga led the Owls with 16 points, five rebounds and four steals, and Amanda Hotham added 13 points and three rebounds.

The Roos are next in action on Sunday when they face the University of Maine at Fort Kent at 12 p.m.
