ROCHESTER -- The third-ranked Rochester Institute of Technology used a five-goal second period to pull away the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team 8-3 in an ECAC West contest.

Kim Schlattman recorded a hat trick for RIT, while junior forwards Annmarie Lewis (Newmarket, Ontario/Aurora Panthers) and Caitlin Manahan (St. Albans, Vt./Elmira College) each recorded two assists for Potsdam.

The first period saw no goals scored and the Tigers holding a slim 8-4 advantage in shots.

In second 20 minutes, powerful RIT ramped up the pressure getting goals from Erin Zach and Katie Stack. Schlatmann scored all three of her markers to close out the scoring in the second period.

Potsdam snuck back into the game with a power-play goal from freshman defenseman Brittany Lucky (Kanata, Ontario/Ottawa Senators) at the 4:00 mark and an even-strength tally from Stephanie Simons (Stratford, Ontario/Bluewater Hawks) at 9:01.

The Tigers got the next three to extend their advantage to 8-2, before Bears’ freshman forward Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) finished off the scoring with a goal at the 15:09 mark.

Sophomore goaltender Jen Conophy (Glenmont, N.Y./Albany Ice Cats) made 38 saves for Potsdam, while Carly King stopped 18 shots for RIT (7-0, 5-0 ECAC West).

Bears Head Coach Jay Green was pleased with his team’s overall performance.

“We had a great start, but were a little undisciplined and got into some penalty trouble in the second period,” said Green. “The girls came back and played well in the third period.

Overall, I was very happy with the effort. They never quit and we executed quite well.”

Potsdam (1-2, 1-2) will get another crack at the Tigers toay in Rochester at 3 p.m.
