CORTLAND, N.Y.—The 18th-ranked SUNY Cortland Red Dragons (9-1-2, 3-1 SUNYAC) scored two goals in 23 seconds late in the first half and then held off the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-6-1, 0-4) for a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon. Senior defender Tyler Mullery (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) scored for the Bears and junior goalie Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) finished with eight saves.

The Red Dragons pressured Potsdam from the outset, pinning the Bears in their own end for much of the first half. Mitchell and his defense kept the game scoreless until the 42nd minute. Miguel Tunas struck at 41:25 and Jake Keller netted the eventual game-winner at 41:48. The score was unchanged at the break.

Potsdam was better in the second half and it paid off at 60:31. Mullery had a shot blocked followed by another from senior midfielder Matt Saddlemire (Gansevoort, N.Y./Schuylerville). Mullery then buried the rebound to cut the lead in half. Cortland clamped down after the marker and the Bears struggled to create offense. In the 82nd minute, Red Dragon goalie Kiernan Kirby stopped a shot from junior forward Alejandro Callejas (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) and Potsdam didn't threaten again.

Kirby made two saves for the win.

The Bears look to bounce back tomorrow at Oswego State when the teams square off at 1 p.m. Potsdam has won three straight against the Lakers and is 5-1-2 against them under Coach Parker.
