Junior Conor Caffrey scored four goals and five other members of the 11th-ranked St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team each netted one goal as the Saints defeated the Vassar Brewers 9-2 for their first Liberty League win of the season at Brunswick School in Greenwich, Connecticut on Saturday afternoon.

Following Caffrey, senior captain Jordan Dow tallied one goal and assisted on two others, while Steven Peterson, David Jennings, Cal Hynson and Jack Hennessey each recorded one. Evan Doodian grabbed a team-best six ground balls, while Tyler Burns caused a team-high four turnovers and Sam Boehle caused three.

Caffrey notched the first and second goals in today's win for his 11th and 12th of the season and after tallying two more in the third quarter brought his season total to 14 goals after four games. Jennings recorded his second goal of the season to put the Scarlet and Brown up 3-0 heading into halftime.

The Brewers' Dekker Stebel struck first after the break, off a pass from Michael Mullen, closing the Saints lead to two goals with just over 13 minutes to play in the third frame.

Five unanswered goals, including back-to-back goals from Caffrey, powered the Saints to an 8-1 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Jack Suominen marked his first career assist after setting up Dow for his tenth goal of the season with 59 seconds remaining.

Hennessey netted his first collegiate goal for the Saints and their ninth of the game with 3:54 to play, before Mullen would add a goal of his own for the Brewers with just 31 second to play.

Mullen recorded one goal and one assist for Vassar, while Dekker added the other goal for the Brewers. Matthew Lowery picked up five ground balls and controlled the faceoff circle winning 10-of-15 faceoffs, while James Thomas caused two turnovers.

"I thought there was a very good team defensive effort today," said head coach Mike Mahoney '93. "And when they did get opportunities, Alex Terry was up for the challenge. We had a great turnout of Saints fans and it was a nice way to kick off the trip."

Sophomore goalkeeper Terry earned his third win of the season after stopping 11 shots while, senior Matty Corbelle made one save in today's win. Brewers' goalkeeper Matt Boyd made 12 saves for Vassar.

The Scarlet and Brown held a 40-29 shot advantage, including a 21-14 lead in shots on goal. The Saints successfully completed 20-of-23 clears, while Vassar edged the Saints in ground balls 29-27.

The Saints improved to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in conference play, while Vassar fell to 1-5 and 0-1.
