McMorrow third as Roos compete at Cross Country cnly championships

Geneva, NY – Àine McMorrow (Dublin Knocklyon, Ireland) recorded her sixth top three performance of the season as the SUNY Canton women's and men's cross country teams competed at the Cross Country Only Championships on Saturday in Geneva.

McMorrow finished third out of the 131 runner field covering the 6-kilometer course in 23:36, just eight seconds behind eventual race winner Alison Davis from Clarkson University. Madeline Hewitt (Fabius, NY) was the next Roo runner across the line in 26:58 (32nd) followed by captain Kim McCarthy (Ludlow, MA) in 30:10 (81st).

Allison Ford (Illion, NY) and Julie Angell (Warrensburg, NY) rounded out the Roos top five runners in 106th (33:27) and 108th (34:18), respectively. Michaela O'Riley (Gouverneur, NY) also competed crossing the line in 127th place for SUNY Canton.

The women finished in ninth place out of 14 teams with 244 points. Clarkson University took home the team title with 32 points.

Anthony Fazio (Highland, NY) had an impressive outing leading the Roo men as he covered the 8-kilometer course in 28:54 good for 42nd place out of the 145 runner field. Paul Ford (Ausable Forks, NY) was the second Canton runner across the line in 69th place (30:05), while Kyle Lorey (Corning, NY) produced a time of 30:36 (75th).

Jonathan Dunham (Edmeston, NY) and Luke Ducharme (Brushton, NY) rounded out the top five in 30:49 (80th) and 30:58 (84th), respectively. Matt Fortin (Liberty, NY – 33:11), Ryan Yutzler (Remsen, NY – 33:12), Brent Archer (Edwards, NY – 34:13) and Josh May (Glenville, NY – 42:31) also competed for the Roos.

SUNY Canton finished in seventh place out of the 15 teams with 245 points. SUNY New Paltz won the team title with 23 points.

The cross country teams are off next weekend before returning to the trails on October 29th when they host the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Conference Meet on the campus of SUNY Canton. The women are scheduled to take off at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 12 p.m.
