MASSENA – Long Sault Archery held its 31st St. Lawrence Bowfishing Championship on June 17-19 at the Amvets Riverfront Campground located on County Rt 42 (Fregoe Rd) in Massena.
The event had 169 registered participants from as far away as Massachusetts, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont and Ontario & Quebec, Canada.
This year’s winner was Francois Elie of St. Isidore, Ontario. His carp came in at 42.5 pounds, winning the $1,000 first prize.
Second place and $750 went to Chris Baumunk of Columbia Cross Roads, PA. with a 41.4 pound carp and third place ($500) went to Tony Lasinski of Altmar, NY, with a 39.8 pound carp.
There were a total of 30 places given out.
The winner of a special Parent/Youth prize went to Tony Lasinksi and Zachary Coe with a total of 79.2 pounds.
The Wounded Warrior Project Quilt Raffle raised $335 and was won by Marshall Issen of Potsdam.
Marshall generously donated the quilt to 18-year old Ian Yando of West Chazy, NY.
Ian is battling cancer and was unable to participate in this year’s event.
Ian has been an avid bowfisherman since he was 14 years old.
