St. Lawrence University rookie cross country runner Anne Martino won the 2011 North Country Five meet in Canton, NY on Wednesday.  Meanwhile, St. Lawrence had an impressive showing, taking the top nine spots in the event.

The North Country Five Meet is an annual men's and women's individual race between St. Lawrence, SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, Potsdam State and Paul Smith's College. 

Martino, a native of Newtown, CT, had a solid race for the Scarlet and Brown, running the difficult course in 20:24, defeating runner-up and teammate Abby Macbeth by 30 seconds.  Sophomores Kelsey Leder, Ariel Beccia and Kayla Vodacek finished in third, fourth and fifth, consecutively.

Rounding out the top-10 showings for St. Lawrence were senior Elizabeth Edwards (6th), sophomore Kendra Sultzer (7th), junior Erikka Nuffer (8th) and sophomore Emily von Loesecke (9th).  Several other student-athletes represented St. Lawrence on Wednesday as well, and their finishes will be included as they become available.

The Saints will be in action again on Saturday, September 17 at the 2011 Saratoga Invitational.
