Seniors Travis Marnell and Tyler Mirabile have been named captains of the 2018 St. Lawrence University football team.

Both players had breakout seasons as juniors in 2017. Marnell, a wide receiver from Highland, New York, led the team with seven touchdown receptions and quadrupled his production from his sophomore year in both receptions (44) and receiving yards (653). Mirabile a defensive lineman from Wilton, Connecticut, was second in the Liberty League with 8.5 sacks and totaled 16.0 tackles for a loss. He earned First-Team All-Liberty League honors and was a Third-Team D3Football.com All-East selection.

"Travis and Tyler were both elected captains this year solely by their teammates," said head coach Dan Puckhaber. "They both are talented players who have been main contributors to their side of the ball. They were elected captains because they not only do it right on the field, but they also do it right off the field as well. Both have earned the respect of their teammates and their teammates gave them the greatest seal of approval a team can give an individual.

"Captains are the elected representatives for our football program. I am excited to see the leadership these two can offer because in their four years they have experienced the highs of two conference championships and the low of only winning one league game last year," Puckhaber continued. "They have seen what works and what doesn't. Our team attitude this year will be a direct reflection of these two and that excites me and the rest of our staff."

Football players will report to campus on August 10. The team's first game will be played under the lights at Leckonby Stadium against Utica College on Friday, August 31, at 7 p.m.
