Making his first career appearance, freshman goaltender Nicholas Latinovich (Maple, ONT) came through with a solid effort in a tight game to backstop Clarkson University to a 3-0 shutout over Rensselaer in Troy NY on Saturday night as the Golden Knights extended their win streak to 14 games.

Clarkson, which has not lost since a one-goal defeat (2-1) at Minnesota on October 28, improves to 18-3-1 overall and holds down first place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a perfect 10-0-0 league mark. The 14-game win streak is the third-longest in the program's 96-year history, trailing only the 16-game streak in 1956-57 and the 23-0-0 undefeated campaign in 1955-56.

Playing in the place of the Knights' all-star goaltender, sophomore Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN), who was taking the night off after playing every minute in the previous 21 games, Latinovich came up with a 21-save effort. He becomes the first Clarkson goaltender to record a whitewash in his first game since Steve Perry on October 6, 2013 in 2-0 win at Niagara.

The Knights have now shut out RPI (4-16-4, 3-8-2) in all three meetings this season, also blanking the Engineers 6-0 in Potsdam on November 3, and 2-0 in Belfast on November 24. Clarkson has won five straight over their rivals and eight of the last nine meetings.

Clarkson outshot RPI 34-21 and enjoyed a significant margin in power-play time, with a season-high 10 man-advantage opportunities, connecting on two. The Green and Gold killed off all seven of the Engineers' power plays.

Senior defenseman Kelly Summers (Golden Lake, ONT) scored on the power play for the only goal the Knights would need, right as a man-advantage was ending at 12:32 of the first. Summers tallied his third of the season and extended his point-streak to seven games with a blast from the left faceoff dot after taking a perfect pass from the side of the net by sophomore Sheldon Rempal (Calgary, ALB). Sophomore Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE) also assisted. Summers has recorded nine points (1-8) since November 25 and has 18 points (3-14) on the year.

After a scoreless second period, Clarkson's sophomore center Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) tallied twice to seal the Green and Gold's ninth road win of the year.

Sturm gave the Knights some breathing room when he converted on the power play at 10:51 of the final frame with a shot from the slot just under the cross bar. Rempal and senior defenseman Terrance Amorosa (Kirkland, ONT) assisted.

With 56 seconds remaining, Sturm closed things out with an empty-net score, his ninth goal of the year. Junior defenseman Aaron Thow (Toronto, ONT) assisted. Sturm also has a seven-game point streak with seven goals and four assists since November 25.

Clarkson opens a four-game home stand at Cheel Arena next weekend hosting Harvard and Dartmouth.
