A goal mere minutes after tying the game doomed the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team as the Golden Knights fell to Bard 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson see its record fall to 4-6-0 and 0-3-0 in conference while Bard is now 6-4-0 and 1-2-0 in the Liberty League.

Bard struck first as the Raptors scored in the 34th minute. Giuliana Scanni sent a cross into the Clarkson box and it reached Carla Sanchez who took a shot. Sanchez's shot bounced off a Clarkson defender and into the net to open the scoring.

Heading into the second half still trailing by a single goal, the Golden Knights began to push forward to tie the game. The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute. Giulia Mahoney crossed into the Bard box where Madison Kather had found open space. Kather ripped a one-time shot that found the goal before the Bard goalkeeper had a chance to react.

However, the tie was quickly broken as Bard answered with a goal in the 56th minute. A long Bard clearance turned into a footrace between Clarkson defenders and Bard attackers. Avalon Quin was able to get to the ball first and her toe poke shot scored. That proved to be the game-winning goal as Bard and goalkeeper Chloe Ramos prevented any further Clarkson goals.

Bard finished with a slight 11-9 edge in shots and took six corner kicks while Clarkson took one. Elyse Green made two saves for Clarkson while Ramos had five stops for Bard.

Clarkson will travel to Plattsburgh for a match on October 4th at 6:00 pm.
