Potsdam, NY - Playing its third ranked opponent in eight days, the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team came up on the short end for the second time in 2011 as RIT's Jordan MacIntosh scored two goals in the final five minutes to send the Golden Knights to a 12-10 loss Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights saw their record fall to 3-2 on the season, while the eighth-ranked Tigers improved to 4-0. Clarkson will host Geneseo State next Saturday.

Clarkson came out on fire in the first period, taking a 5-1 lead through the first 15 minutes with five unanswered goals in the final eight minutes of the quarter. The Knights scored in a variety of ways, picking up groundballs with quick turns, jump shots, and hard slings from the perimeter of the offensive zone. In the second quarter, RIT returned the favor by outscoring the Knights 5-1. The Tigers scored with 19.5 seconds left in the period to tie the game up, picking up the goal while down a man due to a penalty.

Once again, Clarkson started the second half with plenty of offense, earning the first three goals of the period. Eric Gollands (Chelmsford, MA) scored the first at the 11:36 mark and was followed by ripped shots from both Matt McCabe (Syracuse, NY) and Bryan Huff (Hillsborough, NJ), giving the Knights a 9-6 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, from that point on Clarkson would be held to just a single goal. RIT pulled back to within one goal, again scoring late in the period as Tyler Russell picked up a groundball, turned and fired with five seconds remaining in the frame.

In the fourth quarter, RIT tied the game up just 12 seconds in, and took the lead two and a half minutes later when MacIntosh ran around the back side of the net and deposited a shot past the Clarkson keeper. With 7:16 remaining, Clarkson tied the game up on a Tyler Long (Liverpool, NY) goal.

The final five minutes were touch and go as both teams battled for possession. RIT won out as MacIntosh bounced a shot in to the net from 15 feet in front at the 4:32 mark and then put the game away with another goal with 1:09 remaining, flicking a shot past Ryan Cole (Orchard Park, NY) after the Tigers had worked the ball around in the zone.

Gollands and Brendon Shearin (Goffstown, NH) each scored two goals for Clarkson, while Matt Cyr (Cheshire, CT) added two scores and an assist. Long, Huff, McCabe and Mike Fowler (Modena, NY) also scored one goal each.

For RIT, MacIntosh scored five goals and assisted on two others. Also leading the Tigers offensively were Tyler Russell, who scored three times, and Jordan Collins-Hartwig and Kelso Davis, who scored two goals apiece.

Cole made 14 saves for the Knights and also picked up a team-best eight groundballs, while Mike Simmons (Clinton, CT) grabbed four groundballs while adding an assist. MJ Kiekebelt had 12 groundballs for RIT in the midfield, and the Tigers goalkeeper, Bob Tonnessen, made 11 saves.
