Poughkeepsie, NY - Over the years, it seems as if Vassar College has had the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team's number when it comes to last second shots. And if it didn't seem that way before, it certainly does now, as Vassar's Nick Justiz hit a running lay up high off the backboard as time expired to drop the Knights, 50-49, Friday night.
The Golden Knights dropped to 8-4 overall and 0-1 in the Liberty League, while Vassar earned its second win in 12 games, and 1-0 in conference action. Clarkson looks to pick up its first conference win of the campaign against Rensselaer on Saturday.
Clarkson struggled mightily from the floor, shooting just 17-for-62 overall. While the Knights actually buried some important 3-pointers (7-for-18), they shot only 10-for-44 from inside the arc (22.7%). Clarkson also out rebounded Vassar 44-36, including 17 offensive rebounds, and made just six turnovers in the contest.
Junior Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) scored a team-high nine points, with four others scoring eight points. Senior Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) was one of those four, and he also contributed 13 rebounds. For Vassar, John Donnelly had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Caleb McGraw scored 12 points.
