POTSDAM, N.Y.- Oswego State (3-2-2, 2-1-2 ECAC West) shut out SUNY Potsdam women's hockey team (3-3-2, 1-3-1 ECAC West) Friday night at Maxcy Ice Arena 4-0. Freshman defenseman Brianna McFall (Falconer, N.Y./Buffalo Regals) scored twice and recorded an assist to lead the Lakers past the Bears.

The first period was evenly matched before Oswego got on the board at 14:26. The teams were battling at center ice for possession. The Bears shot it around the boards behind their own goal and a miss play by Potsdam's defense allowed sophomore forward Andrea Noss (Orange, Conn./Connecticut Polar Bears) to pick it up and swing it around the post by senior goalie Abby Tardelli (Potsdam, N.Y./Potsdam). Oswego tacked on another goal less than two minutes later when McFall shot from the point that ended up over Tardelli's right shoulder into the top corner of the net to put the Lakers up 2-0, Oswego took the lead into the first intermission.

The Bears had three power play opportunities throughout the second stanza, but were unable to solve sophomore goalie Mariah Madrigal (Brownstown, Mich./Team Detroit). Tardelli and the defense fought off 11 shots to leave the score unchanged and the offense outshot the Lakers 13-11.

Frustration started to set in for the Bears during the third period. Potsdam had four of the five penalties and the Lakers converted on two of them. Following a Potsdam penalty at 10:54, Oswego went on the attack. At 12:23, McFall added her second goal of the night. Two and a half minutes later, McFall shot from the point, senior forward Lizzy Marks (Penfield, N.Y./Rochester Edge) crossed it in front of the net to sophomore forward Rachel Lenard (Orchard Park, N.Y./Buffalo Bisons) on the left side of the goal and Lenard tipped it home on the open net for a power play score. The teams battled the remaining five minutes and the Lakers took the 4-0 victory.

Tardelli finished with 27 saves, while Madrigal stopped 31 for the win. Oswego went 2-for-6 on the power play and the Bears went 0-for-4. The teams tied 31 in shots.

The two teams will hit the ice tomorrow at 3 p.m. in Maxcy Ice Arena.
