Potsdam, NY – Junior Kody Kocsis recorded 20 saves and Josh Yelvington and Trenton Yule combined for seven goals as the SUNY Canton men's lacrosse team earned a 10-8 road win at SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday night.

The win is the first for the men's lacrosse team against SUNY Potsdam in school history.

SUNY Potsdam (0-2) jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the opening quarter but the Roos (2-1) held a 4-3 edge in second quarter scoring as the teams went to intermission tied at five. Josh Yelvington scored the first three goals for Canton, while Jake Sutton and Trenton Yule also found the back of the net.

Dante Coco, Yule and Kyle Smith netted three straight goals to open the second half giving Canton its first advantage of the game as it opened up an 8-5 advantage. Yule and Yelvington added another man-up goal each to extend the Roos lead to 10-6 early in the fourth quarter.

Eric Soderquist and Ryan Waldron added scores 30 seconds apart midway through the fourth but from that point on Kocsis made all three saves he faced the rest of the way and finished with seven total stops in the fourth quarter alone.

Yelvington totaled four goals, while Yule found the back of the net three times. Smith finished with a goal and two assists and Coco tallied a goal and assist.

Kocsis made a season-high 20 saves for the Roos, while Sean Coe made eight stops in the start for the Bears and Zach Sheridan made one stop in relief.
