Canton, NY – An overwhelming advantage on offense allowed the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team to head into conference play with some momentum as the Golden Knights gained a 3-0 win over SUNY Canton Wednesday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-2-1 on the season and they will host Ithaca College on Saturday at Hantz Turf Field. The Kangaroos dropped to 2-5-0 in 2018.

For the first five minutes or so, SUNY Canton possessed the ball just as much as Clarkson did, but the superior speed of the Golden Knights quickly won out as the Green and Gold controlled play for the final 85 minutes of the contest. It took some time before the Knights could get a quality look on the Canton goal, and the Knights first goal actually came at some distance. Dana Andreaggi settled an attempted clear about 35 yards out and passed the ball forward to Summer Gillespie. The senior then sent a pass square to Alicia Bushey and she blasted a right-footed shot from about 25 yards out into the right corner to put the Knights up 1-0 at the 12:19 mark. It was Bushey's second goal of the season.

Clarkson had plenty of other chances in the first half, taking 11 shots overall and getting 10 corner kick chances, but the Knights could not add to their lead until the final minute of the first half. Danielle Martin put together an impressive individual effort for her first goal of 2018, weaving her way through the Canton defense before finishing a shot in close that went between the legs of Roos' goalkeeper Allison Wakefield at 44:44.

The second half was more of the same, with the Knights peppering the Canton goal. The Knights had several quality runs and chances, but it was at the midway point that they struck once more. Junior Megan Murphy controlled the ball near the end line before sending a pass back out front to classmate Giulia Mahoney. There, Mahoney was able to out jump her defender and get flick on a header, putting the ball past Wakefield at 72:23 for her fourth goal of the year.

Clarkson finished with a 28-3 edge in shots and a 16-1 lead in corner kick chances. It was not until the waning moments of the second half that Canton had its first corner kick, which in turn produced the lone shot of the second half for the Roos.

Jessica Adams finished with two saves for Clarkson to earn her first collegiate shutout. Wakefield denied seven shots for Canton.
