Potsdam, NY - A slick track made for some questionable footing and an even tougher handle for the goalkeepers as a miscue led to one goal in the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team's 2-0 Liberty League victory over Bard College Saturday afternoon at Clarkson Grass Field.

The Golden Knights picked up their first conference victory of the season, improving to 6-2-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Liberty League, while the Raptors dropped to 3-7-0 and 0-2-0.

The first 45 minutes were cold with a very light misting rain, but the second half brought more of a steady rain causing playing conditions to become less pleasant. While the shots were fairly even in the first half (Clarkson led 7-4), the Golden Knights not only supplied more offensive pressure in the second half but also put forth a staunch defensive effort, limiting the Raptors chances as the Clarkson frame. The Knights gained a bit of a lucky bounce late in the second half as Bard goalkeeper Simone Leitner couldn't corral a bounding ball, allowing freshman Jessica Budaj (Windsor, MA) to gain brief control before the ball found its way to the foot of senior Alix Petitti (Amsterdam, NY), who was able to turn and kick the ball into an unguraded net.

Just a few minutes later, Budaj again was in front of the Bard goal and tried to force one past one Raptors' defender and the keeper, but the ball was stopped and was picked up by freshman Taryn Dausman (Syracuse, NY), who was able to hit a groundball into the corner of the net for an insurance goal at the 81:52 mark.

Clarkson out shot Bard 15-5 in the game and held a 5-1 edge in corner kick chances. Leitner made five saves for the Raptors, while Brianna Thibeau (Salem, NY) made three saves in the Clarkson goal.
