Four different Golden Knights scored for the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team on Saturday as the Green and Gold completed a weekend sweep over Syracuse University with a 4-2 victory at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson, which defeated the Orange 3-2 in Central, NY last night, owns a four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1) to improve its record to 3-1-2.

Owning a 14-7 shot advantage in the first period, the Golden Knights got off to a quick start in the game, dominating puck control and races to the puck and grabbed the 1-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes. At 7:24 sophomore Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) fired in a shot from the right point that found the top left corner of the Syracuse net for a power-play tally. Junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) and sophomore Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) assisted.

Syracuse (2-2-2) wasted little time in the second period to even the score. Just 52 seconds into the stanza, Holly Carrie-Mattimoe banged in a wraparound shot for the only scoring in the period.

A three-goal spurt in the opening 7:30 of the third period, put the Knights firmly in control. Senior Gabrielle Kosziwka (Limehouse, ONT), who scored twice in Friday’s win at Syracuse, put the Knights back on top early in the third, finishing off an assist in front from classmate Kali Gillanders (Kyle, SASK) at 2:15. Sophomore Shelby Nisbet (Wiseton, SASK) followed, jamming in a rebound at the top of the crease for a power-play marker at 5:46 with Gillanders and sophomore Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) assisting. Less than two minutes later, Rattray made it 4-1 when she picked up a loose in the corner and circled out front where she fired in a shot for an unassisted goal at 7:30.

The Orange closed the gap midway through the stanza when Mattimoe scored her second goal of the game just 15 seconds into a power-play for her third goal of the season at 10:19.

Clarkson outshot Syracuse 31-22. Sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) posted 20 saves to earn the win. Jenesica Drinkwater made 27 saves for the Orange.

The Knights were 2-of-4 on the power play, while Syracuse was 1-of-5 with the man-advantage.
