Potsdam, NY – Despite making a run in the fourth quarter that drew the team within one, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team could not find the extra push to overtake its opponents, dropping a 62-55 decision to Oswego State in the season-opener Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights (0-1) are off until next Monday when the team will host SUNY Canton.

Both teams struggled in the first quarter, combining for a total of 13 points. Oswego committed eight turnovers in the first 10 minutes with no offensive rebounds, while Clarkson had six turnovers and a 3-for-15 effort from the field with six turnovers. The Lakers picked it up in the second quarter, shooting 6-for-12 from the field, but the Knights went 3-for-14. Oswego took advantage of Clarkson's struggles despite the Knights early advantage. Clarkson led 14-6 after a Carly Assimon layup at 7:41, but two Raiven Encarnacion 3-pointers and two free throws tied the game up at the 6:01 mark. Just 38 seconds later, Oswego took the lead for good with a Sam Doupe jumper, as the Lakers went on a 17-0 run in just under seven minutes. A pair of free throws from Molly Stewart in the final 30 seconds broke the drought after eight misses and four turnovers.

Both teams found their offensive groove in the third quarter as each tossed in 21 points in the 10-minute stretch. In the fourth quarter, Quincey Zimmerman tossed in a pair of free throws at the 9:00 mark, but Clarkson would respond with a 12-2 run, capped by a three-point play on a layup and free throw from Hannah Earl at 5:28. However, that was as close as the Knights would get as Clarkson missed its next five shots from the field. A jumper by Rachael Windhausen at the 1:02 mark extended Oswego's lead back to seven and the Knights simply could not convert enough down the stretch to overcome the deficit.

Three Clarkson players finished in double figures, led by Carly Assimon's 15 points, as the sophomore shot 6-for-14 from the floor. Molly Stewart kicked in 14 points and Hannah Earl tossed in 10 points despite foul trouble. Kati Gotch also nearly notched a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

For Oswego State, Quincey Zimmerman tossed in 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting to lead the Lakers. Sam Doupe and Sy Ramatoulaye added in 13 and 11 points, respectively, coming off the bench. Raiven Encarnacion also chipped in 12 points.
