Potsdam, NY - If just one event had swung the way of the Clarkson University Swim team on Friday afternoon, the Golden Knights would have come away with a sweep of crosstown rival, but instead the Green and Gold settled for a split against the Bears at Maxcy Hall.

The Golden Knights men came away with a 145-133 win, their third win in the last four years against Potsdam, while the women narrowly fell 145-139. Clarkson will finish out its dual meet season in two weeks when it hosts Utica College at Fuller Pool.

With a win in the 400 medley relay, the Golden Knights women started off the day on the right foot, as Tiffany Catano, Abigail Sullivan, Kayla Weckesser and Kelly Ludeke completed the event with a time of 4:19.60. Sullivan finished the day as the only two-time winner for the Clarkson women, taking first place in the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.11, winning by almost six seconds, and also finishing first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:50.32. Sophomore Sarah Halstead finished first in the 100 backstroke in 1:05.28 and senior Kelly Ludeke touched the pad first in the 500 freestyle in 5:34.07. Freshman Joanne Bechaz also earned the most points in the 1-meter dive, scoring a 174.25.

For the men, junior Sam Zwierzchowski claimed first in both of the freestyle distance events, opening his day with a victory in the 1000 freestyle in 10:56.91, nearly nine seconds faster than the next competitor, and then closing it with a win in the 500 freestyle in 5:14.39. Sophomore Chris Bay gained first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.38, while senior Aaron Parysek and freshman Garry Dorn earned wins in the breaststroke events, with Parysek earning first in the 100 (1:05.20) and Dorn taking the top spot in the 200 (2:22.64).
