Knights split doubleheader with Albright

Auburndale, FL - An offensive outburst in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader by the Clarkson University Baseball team could not be carried over into the second game as the Golden Knights split a twinbill with Albright, winning the first 12-4 and dropping the nightcap 9-4 at the Lake Myrtle Complex.

The Golden Knights temporarily evened their seasonal mark, but dropped back to 3-4 after game two. Clarkson will close out its Florida schedule on Wednesday when the team faces Salem State.

In the opener, only one player went without a hit in the starting nine as Clarkson scored in four of the seven innings. The Knights plated one in the second inning thanks to an error, and then three crossed in the third. David Kinney (Mexico, NY) started the inning with a double as the Knights loaded the bases with one out. Chris Falteisek (Baldwinsville, NY), Pete Lasecki (Stratford, CT) and Sam Grainger (Bedford, MA) each drove in a run to push Clarkson's advantage to 4-0.

Albright responded with runs in the third and the fourth, but the Knights had two more runs cross in the sixth with Scott Morrissey (Troy, NY) coming around on an error and Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY) doubled in another. Again, the Lions picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, but Clarkson put the game away in the seventh, scoring six times. David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY), Kinney, Coleman, and Justin McInerney (Grand Island, NY) crushed four straight hits to drive in runs.

Lasecki went 4-for-4 with a walk and Coleman went 3-for-4 wit a walk. Kinney also went 2-for-5 and scored three times. David Goerold (Clifton Park, NY) came back on three days rest, tossing a complete-game effort for the victory.

In game two, Albright found its offensive flow by scoring in four straight innings. Clarkson struggled to put together consistent offense as the Knights' hits were scattered throughout the game. Freshman Dan Lenney (Clifton Park, NY) was 2-for-4, including an RBI single to drive in Coleman from third base in the fourth inning. McInerney drove home two in the seventh as well.

Notes: Following the first four games of the season, Jerry Coleman and David Wixted earned Liberty League Weekly honors. Coleman was named Co-Performer of the Week, hitting .615 with an on-base percentage above .700. Wixted was picked as Co-Rookie of the Week, batting .500 in 10 at bats.
