Greenwood, ME - Freshman Austin Florian (Southington, CT) tied for fourth in his one run in the slalom and led a strong performance by numerous members of the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team as both the men and women came in third place in the slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regionals held at Mount Abram.

The Golden Knights' men took third among 15 teams, and finished in second place overall over the two-day event, while the women ended in third place among 12 squads, coming in fourth place overall. Both teams will be heading back to the USCSA National Championships, to be held this year in Sun Valley, Idaho during the first week of March, with the men returning for the seventh straight year and the women going for the fifth time in a row.

After two runs of the giant slalom on Saturday, the slalom was limited to one run on Sunday, and Florian led the Golden Knights with a four-place showing with a time of 49.27 seconds. All five Clarkson skiers finished in the top half of the field on Sunday, with Florian being joined on the scoring sheet by Christian Perryman (West Lebanon, NH), who came in 11th place in 49.98 seconds, and freshman Sean Donohue (Bolton Landing, NY), who took 14th in 50.17 seconds. Senior David Simon (Montvale, NJ) came in 21st in 51.05 seconds and sophomore Alex Slemp (Clifton Park, NY) raced to a 29th-place showing in 53.08 seconds.

The women were bunched together as well, again with all five finishing in the top half of the 60 competitors. Freshman Ashley Yoviene (Boston, NY) led the way for the Knights for the second straight day, finishing in 10th place in 51.89 seconds. Classmate Taylor Manderson (Ballston Spa, NY) was just one spot behind her teammate in 11th in 52.59 seconds, and junior Sarah Shafer (Petosky, MI) rounded out the top three by coming in 15th in 53.36 seconds. Freshman Kelly Rowland (West Windsor, NJ) recovered from a tough first day at the USCSA Eastern Regionals by finishing in 19th in 55.82 seconds in the slalom, and sophomore Mycala Stebbins (Canandaigua, NY) took 27th in 58.87 seconds.
