A late rally by the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team came up just short as the Golden Knights fell on the road, losing 15-14 at Oswego State on Tuesday afternoon. The Green and Gold scored six of the last eight goals, but the Lakers were able to hold off Clarkson to gain the one-goal, non-conference victory.

Trailing 9-5 after the opening 30 minutes, the Knights controlled the second half outscoring Oswego 9-6 in the period, and went on 6-2 run over the final 13 minutes in a bid to gain the road win. Freshman Marissa Mastronardi (Cortland, NY) capped off five-goal outburst by Clarkson to tie the game at 13-13 with 7:20 remaining.

The Lakers (2-0) responded, however, with goals by Liz Conrad and Rachael Raffa 50 seconds apart to gain a 15-13 advantage with 1:47 left on the clock. Sophomore Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) scored her team-high fifth goal of the contest with 95 seconds remaining, but the Knights would get no closer.

Cristaldi finished with seven points (5-2) while Mastronardi posted four points (1-3). Junior Laura Barlow (Latham, NY) and sophomores Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) and Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) tallied two goals apiece. Senior Cammie Hayes (Queensbury, NY) and junior Saryn Campbell (West Bolton, VT) chipped in one goal and one assist each to round out the Clarkson offense.

Oswego’s Raffa led all scorers with eight goals.

The Lakers held a 35-31 shot advantage. Both teams picked up 18 groundballs.

Junior Hannah Walters (Amherst, NH) made 13 saves for the Knights. Cline led the Green and Gold with four groundballs.

At 1-3, Clarkson will look to get back on the winning track when it opens Liberty League play at the University of Rochester on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
