Canton, NY - Junior Trevor LaBrecque shot a two-over par 74 on the first day of the St. Lawrence Invitational to help lead the Clarkson University Golf team to a third-place showing through 18 holes of the annual event held at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course.

The Golden Knights (309) are just four strokes behind Hamilton College (305) for second place and 16 strokes off the pace set by New York University (293). Clarkson is currently well ahead of St. Lawrence B (318), St. Lawrence A (319), Utica (326), SUNY Canton (340), St. Lawrence C (341), Potsdam State (365) and Paul Smiths (372). The tournament resumes at 8:00 am on Sunday.

LaBrecque's opening day 74 has him just two strokes off the first place performance, tying him for fourth with two other golfers from NYU. Senior Brad Belote shot a three-over 75 and is tied for seventh while Andrew Leek (79, tied for 19th) and Chris Rust (81, tied for 24th) rounded out Clarkson's score of 309. Thomas Conroy shot 82 and is alone in 28th among the 54 participants. Playing individually for the Knights, outside the team scoring, were Mike DiPaola and Cameron Anthony. Each of the sophomores were just plus-five for the day with a score of 77, tied for 10th overall.
