Potsdam, NY - Three divers in the 32nd event cost the men of the Clarkson University Swim team, and the women came up just short in the relay events as crosstown rival Potsdam State swept the Golden Knights in a dual meet Friday afternoon at Maxcy Hall.
The Golden Knights' men came up five points short, falling 149.5-144.5 as the Bears picked up points in the diving event, while the women came up 12 points short, 133-121, as Potsdam won both of the relay events to provide the difference.
Senior Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY) won a pair of sprint freestyle events, taking first in the 50 free in 22.45 seconds and the 100 free in 49.83 seconds. Telesca also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team, with a time of 1:41.02, along with Stephen Maxwell (Latham, NY), Jon Ketcham (East Aurora, NY), and Nick Short (Endwell, NY), as well as the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.70) with Sean Parnett (Clifton Park, NY), Alex Trass (Greene, NY) and Sam Zagrobelny (East Aurora, NY).
Parnett and Zagrobelny each won individual events for the Golden Knights, with Parnett taking first in the 200 butterfly (2:10.36) and Zagrobelny claiming the top spot in the 100 butterfly (54.72).
For the women, Jillian Brown (Kenmore, NY) finished first in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events, taking the shorter of the two in 58.51 seconds, and longer event in 2:08.52. Kimberlee Stillittano (Binghamton, NY) also had a pair of first-place finishes,winning the 200 butterfly in 2:31.22 and the 200 individual medley in 2:27.50.
