Senior Charlton Kelly scored twice to lead the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 3-1 win over the Vassar Brewers in Liberty League play on Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.

With the win, the Saints moved to first in the conference standings with a 9-2-2 record on the season and 5-1-1 in conference play, while Vassar fell to 8-4 and 4-2.

Second to Kelly, Tapshak Augustine netted one goal and added an assist, while Raphael Zoccolaro and Aidan Callahan also added assists in today's win.

In the 20th minute of play Zoccolaro tipped the ball to Kelly, Kelly then sent a one timer past Brewers' goalkeeper Will Marment to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime, Augustine, just past midfield, sent the long feed up to Kelly, who sent the ball straight to the upper left hand corner of the goal to give the Saints a 2-0 lead.

In the 54th minute of play, Vassar looked to get on the scoreboard, but Hawkins Barratt Heitmann skimmed the crossbar, preserving the Saints lead before the break.

At the half, St. Lawrence held an 8-3 shot advantage.

In the 60th minute, Callahan crossed the ball from the left hand side, straight to Augustine for his second goal of the season and Saints third of the game.

Jonathan Bow put the Brewers on the board with just under four minutes remaining on a quick pass from Mattie Mrlik, making the score 3-1.

"I'm delighted for the team today with the win," said head coach Mike Toshack. "It was a good soccer game, as Vassar is a well coached team with an excellent staff, and you can certainly see that on the field. We capitalized on the chances that came our way today and we also played strong defensively to get the victory and we look forward to playing Skidmore next weekend."

The Saints finished with a 17-11 edge in shots and a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Marment and Saints' goalkeeper Mike Smith each recorded four saves in goal.

St. Lawrence will travel to Saratoga Springs, New York to face Skidmore on October 20.
