(Pittsford, N.Y.)- Austin Johnston (Auburn, N.Y.) scored in the 53rd minute helping the SUNY Canton men’s soccer team tie St. John Fisher 1-1 Thursday night in Pittsford, N.Y.

The Roos, who are ranked 10th in the USCAA Coaches Poll, moved to 10-6-2 overall and are 7-1-1 in their last nine games.

The Roos tied the game early in the second half when Shane Powell (Yonkers, N.Y.) sent a nice crossing pass over a St. John Fisher defender right to Johnston who blasted a shot into the left side of the net for his fourth goal in the last five games.

Thursday night’s game, played for the most part in a steady downpour, was quite an offensive display as both teams combined for over 50 shots as the Cardinals held a slim 30-22 advantage in that category for the game. The Roos did bounce back from a 1-0 halftime deficit as they upped their offensive pressure in the final 45 minutes outshooting St. John Fisher 14-9 in the second half.

Sankung Sillah (Bronx, N.Y.) turned aside 14 shots for the Roos in goal and Kyle Metcalfe had nine saves for the Cardinals.

SUNY Canton hits the road again this Saturday when they’ll play at Vermont Technical College at 3 p.m. in Randolph Center, Vt. The Roos beat the Green Knights 6-0 in their first meeting earlier this season.
