Help Saints volleyball dig pink on Oct. 19th

The St. Lawrence University volleyball program has taken on an incredible initiative.  Teaming up with the Side-Out Foundation, the Saints will host the 1st Annual Dig Pink event on Tuesday, October 19th during the team's match against Clarkson University.

"The Athletic Department is honored to host Dig Pink to help raise money and
awareness for such a worthy cause," Director of Athletics Margie Strait
said.  "I encourage everyone to come to the gym to cheer on the Saints Volleyball team and support this important fund raiser."

Dig Pink is a breast cancer awareness rally coordinated through the Side-Out
Foundation that takes place in gyms all over the country during Breast Cancer
Awareness Month.  High school and collegiate volleyball teams throughout the nation are participating with the goal of raising $2.5 million. The Saints volleyball team set a goal to raise $1000 dollars for the cause through donations and Dig Pink t-shirt sales.

"Thanks to the very generous support of the St. Lawrence community, over 830
Dig Pink t-shirts were pre-sold for the event," said Head Coach Shelly Roiger.  "We have already quadrupled our goal, raising over $4,000 for this cause."

Everyone attending the volleyball match is encouraged to wear pink in support
of the event.  With the help of everyone in attendance, Burkman gymnasium will be packed with pink.  The organization with the most ‘pink' spirit will be recognized, as well as the organization with the best percentage of attendance.

"We hope to see as many men wearing pink as women in support of the wives, mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, aunts, and others in our lives who have been affected," Coach Roiger added.

Along with an exciting volleyball match between the St. Lawrence University Saints and the Clarkson Golden Knights, there will be a serving contest, information booths set up in the front foyer and pink t-shirts, bracelets and baked goods being sold.

The Saints would also like to honor members of the St. Lawrence community that either have battled or are currently battling breast cancer.  As a sign of support, these individuals will
be presented with a pink rose as a sign of support from the SLU community.

The St. Lawrence volleyball team is excited to work with the Side-Out Foundation and be a part of the Dig Pink Campaign.  With the help of the players, coaches, parents, spectators and survivors, the Saints hope to increase awareness and knowledge about the disease and to raise money for the war against breast cancer.

Coach Roiger would like to give a special thanks to senior Jordyn Buzza who has orchestrated the combined efforts of the volleyball program, ODK, and SAAC to make this a powerful event for the entire St. Lawrence community.
