Much of the early-season success of the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team, which is off to the best ever in the 10-year history of the program, can be attributed to the outstanding play in the crease by junior Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT).
For the third time this season, Howe was recognized as ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week after backstopping the Golden Knights to a weekend sweep on the road. Clarkson defeated Quinnipiac 4-1 in Hamden, CT on Friday and pulled out a 2-1 overtime triumph at Princeton on Saturday. Ranked third in the national polls, the Knights stand at 12-2 overall and 6-0 in ECAC Hockey.
Howe matched a season-high for saves with 36 in the win over the Bobcats and posted 21 stops in the overtime victory against the Tigers in New Jersey. Through 13 games, Howe posts a .946 save percentage (5th in the nation), and a 1.31 goals against average (5th) and three shutouts (3rd). Howe was earlier named ECAC Hockey’s Goaltender of the Month for October.
After a weekend off, the Green and Gold resumes play on November 30 against second-ranked Cornell in a 7:00 p.m. game at Cheel Arena. Clarkson hosts Colgate the following day in a 3:00 p.m. faceoff.
