POTSDAM, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (4-3-1, 0-1 SUNYAC) and SUNY Geneseo (3-2-2, 1-0 SUNYAC) battled evenly for 109 minutes, but a long drive from Knights senior defender Connor Ross (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) gave his squad the 1-0 win. Bears junior goalkeeper Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) finished with six saves for the Bears.

Geneseo had two great chances early. Just 45 seconds in, junior forward Bryan Wager (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) capped a two-on-one with a rocket high. Eight minutes later, senior midfielder Noah Van Zandt (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) drove a shot toward the top of the net, but Mitchell punched it over the crossbar. Potsdam eventually slowed down the Knights' offense and generated four first half corner kicks, but didn't pressure Geneseo junior goalie Liam Dole (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem) much.

Potsdam out played the Knights in the second half, outshooting them 8-2. However, new Geneseo goalie, junior Dillon Medd (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) made three second half saves to keep the Bears off the board. Freshman forward Jhonny Mendoza (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) had two strong chances, including a bullet in the 86th minute, and senior midfielder Tyler Mullery (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) almost scored in the 68th. The game was still scoreless after 90 minutes.

Potsdam outshot Geneseo 3-0 in the first overtime, but Medd stopped a Mendoza blast in the 84th minute to keep the contest scoreless. The Knights turned on the pressure in the second extra period, outshooting the Bears 5-1. Geneseo junior defender Caleb Murthy (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) put a header on goal in the 107th minute, but Mitchell easily handled the attempt. With 37 seconds remaining, the Knights earned a corner kick. Potsdam cleared the ball twice, but not far enough. With 20 seconds left, Ross ripped a low shot through a crowd. Mitchell dove to his left, knocking the ball off the post and into the net.

Dole finished with one save in the first 45 minutes. Medd stopped five shots and earned the win in the last 65 minutes.

The Bears outshot Geneseo 15-13 and had an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Potsdam looks to bounce back tomorrow afternoon when the Bears host the College at Brockport at 1 p.m.
