Fredonia State scored three runs in the top of the fourth and broke a 4-4 tie with two in the top of the seventh en route a 7-4 win over St. Lawrence in Ft. Myers, FL Friday afternoon.
The Saints fell to 4-3 heading into a final Florida game against Coast Guard on Saturday. Fredonia is 1-2 on the season.
The Saints scored single runs in the bottom of the second, third and fourth and added another in the bottom of the sixth, but Fredonia took the lead for good in the top of the seventh and tacked on a run in the eighth for the win. The Blue Devils had 17 hits against a trio of Saint pitchers. Chris Kellogg was the Saint starter, Mike Dell'Olio took the loss in relief and Sam Downes pitched a scoreless inning.
Brian Magovney singled and scored on a two out double by Kevin Prindle in the second and Mark Syron walked, stole second and third and scored on Bryan Palermo's ground out in the third. Chris Fernandez walked and came around on Andrew Schreyack's two-out single in the fourth and Fernandez singled, stole second, went to third on Devin Robson's single and scored on a double play groundout for the run in the sixth.
Fredonia's go-ahead runs in the top of the seventh came with two outs when the Blue Devils strung three straight singles and took advantage of a Saint error.
Schreyack went three for four for the Saints while Palermo, Magovney and Prindle had two hits each.
