Four second half goals lead Pioneers past Roos' Women’s Soccer

Alfred, NY – Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsi Gilbert (Colton, NY) made 14 saves but the SUNY Canton women's soccer team dropped a 5-0 road decision to Alfred State College on Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers (4-4) led 1-0 at intermission behind Julia Yanarella's second goal of the season. The hosts held a 6-0 shots on goal advantage in the opening 45 minutes.

Danielle O'Buckley and Brooke Geibel scored three minutes apart in the opening 11 minutes of the second half to extend the Pioneer lead to three. Melissa Mineti and Karley Trotta added insurance markers 40 seconds apart for the 5-0 final.

Ryley Scott (Warrensburg, NY) led the Roos (1-7) with two shots, one of which was on net. Gilbert made 14 saves for SUNY Canton, while Allison Danielak turned aside one shot for the Pioneers.

The women's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Cazenovia College at 4 p.m.
