Senior Hillary Drewry and first-year student Elkie Vandenbeemt teamed up in A flight doubles competition to win the Mary Hosking Tennis Tournament hosted by William Smith College. The duo battled through four straight matches before they were crowned champions on Sunday evening in Geneva, NY.
Drewry and Vandenbeemt downed Joanie Hilton and Kiara Ocasio of William Smith 8-4 in the first doubles round before defeating Julia Passik and Monica Vieth of Geneseo St. 8-5 in the quarterfinals. After earning an 8-5 victory over RIT's Maite Vera and Liz Uhrinec, the doubles team faced Shanuki Tillekeratne and Frances Tseng of Rochester where they earned the title with an 8-3victory.
Also advancing in doubles action were the duos of first-year students Olivia Arroyo/ Suzanne Weinstein and first-year student Hannah Langsdale and senior Barry Edgar. Both teams advanced in the B flight doubles, earning two victories apiece before falling in the semifinal round.
In singles action, Drewry advanced to the A flight singles championship match where she battled with Tseng (U of R) but would eventually fall by the score of 8-6. Vandenbeemt and Arroyo also advanced to the A flight semifinals.
