Poughkeepsie, NY - Junior Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) scored a team-best 14 points but the Clarkson University Women's Basketball lost the Liberty League conference opener 57-54 to Vassar College Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-8 overall and 0-1 in conference games, while the Brewers moved to 6-5 and 1-0. Clarkson looks to get back on the winning track against Rensselaer Saturday afternoon.

Vassar jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes, the Golden Knights didn't get on the scoreboard until the 15:28 mark. From there, the Brewers pushed their lead to double figures just a few minutes later and held an 11-point advantage with six minutes to go. Clarkson roared back into the contest, capped by a Sierra Noles (Averill Park, NY) 3-pointer in the waning moments, bringing the Knights back within two, 25-23.

Unfortunately for the Knights, the two-point differential was as close as they could get. Vassar started the half with another quick run, and eventually returned its lead to double figures. Late in the contest, Clarkson again made things interesting, but the deficit was too much to overcome.

The Knights uncharacteristically struggled from the free throw line, making only 11 of their 19 freebies, yet out rebounded Vassar, 44-39. Turner had five rebounds to go along with her 14 points, while sophomore Noelle Miller (Hamburg, NY) contributed 11 points. Noles added in seven points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Clarkson's leading scorer Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) missed the game due to an ankle injury.

Cydni Matsuoka had a game-high 16 points, shooting 6-for-12 from the line, while three others each tossed in 10 points.
