CU women's hockey's home winning streak ends at seven

All good things must come to an end as the fourth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team found out on Friday night. The Golden Knights' seven game home winning streak to open the season was halted by visiting eighth-ranked Quinnipiac who left Cheel Arena with a 3-0 win.

Clarkson falls to 13-2-2 overall and 1-2-2 in ECAC Hockey while Quinnipiac is now 8-1-3 overall and 4-1-2 in conference.

"I thought we had enough chances and played well enough to win tonight, but Quinnipiac was able to capitalize on their chances where we were not," stated Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "The first period was a bit sloppy but I thought in the second and third periods we were able to control the puck and play for a few extended periods and gain some scoring chances from those. Their goalie also made a game-changing save in the second period on a point blank opportunity that we had. I think if we capitalize on that scoring chance and take the lead it may have been a different game. We need to make sure that we rebound and learn from our mistakes and bring a good effort tomorrow against a good Princeton team."

After a scoreless first period, Quinnipiac took the lead with two quick goals as the clock wound down in the second period. First, at 16:27, Nicole Connery sent the puck to a flying Taylor Cianfarano who went in on a breakaway and scored. Less than two minutes later, Cianfarano again scored off a pass from Connery. This time, Connery found Cianfarano in front of the Clarkson net and Cianfarano's shot deflected off a defender and into the net.

Cianfarano completed her hat trick at the 9:15 mark of the third period. She took a shot from the left side that deflected off the inside of the post and in.

Clarkson finished with a 29-20 edge in shots. Clarkson was 0-2 on power-plays while Quinnipiac failed to score on its one extra skater opportunity. Sophomore goaltender

Shea Tiley made 17 saves for the Golden Knights while Sydney Rossman made 29 stops for the Bobcats.

The road does not get any easier for the Green and Gold who will welcome tenth-ranked Princeton to Cheel Arena in a 4:00 pm game tomorrow afternoon.
