Canton, NY – Sophomores Raeanna Dunn and Summer Lancette combined for 10 hits and six stolen bases to create a dynamic one-two punch for the Clarkson University Softball team on Wednesday, as the Golden Knights swept a doubleheader against SUNY Canton 14-5 and 4-3.

The Golden Knights improved to 15-5 on the season and will open conference play on Thursday with a doubleheader against St. Lawrence University at Scott Field.

In the opener Clarkson's offense was mostly quiet for the first two innings before breaking things open with an offensive barrage in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Dunn manufactured the run almost on her own in the top of the first, starting things off with a single. She then swiped second and third before coming home on a groundout to make the score 1-0. The Knights were held scoreless until Dunn circled the bases in the third, doubling to the fence and then racing to third on an errant throw before being allowed to score as the ball went out of play. Clarkson wasn't done in the third, however, as Liz Caggiano delivered a two-run single to make the score 4-0. The Knights tacked on seven in the fourth to blow the game open. Dunn doubled home the first run and two more came around on a passed ball. A fielder's choice made the score 8-0 and Sara Armstrong plated a run with a single. Karlie Neuhausser collected her first collegiate runs batted in with a two-run single to cap the scoring and give the Knights an 11-0 advantage.

SUNY Canton slugged its way to five runs in the bottom half of the fourth, with the key play being a bases loaded bomb by Jaedyn Ossont. However, the Knights would not be denied in the top of the fifth in their effort to shorten the game. Lancette drove home Dunn with a single and Jamie Bridge added an RBI double before coming home on a ground out by Kelsey Green.

The first four hitters combined to go 10-for-14 with 11 runs scored and seven more driven in, as well as five stolen bases. Dunn was 4-for-4 with four runs and three steals, Lancette and Caggiano each went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI, and Bridge was 2-for-4 with three runs and two driven in. Meg Tully picked up the win to improve to 3-3. She pitched three flawless innings before being touched for the runs in the fourth. Katie Pelton wrapped things up with a scoreless frame of her own.

Game two saw a reduced offense for Clarkson, but the Knights still came away with the win. It didn't appear as if that would be the case in the early going as Shannon Dowling delivered a two-out opposite field home run in the bottom of the first, and Stefanie Miller's double in the third just stayed inside the foul line to score Chloe Solomon. Down by three runs, Clarkson chipped away with a run in the top of the fourth inning. Chelsea Elliott doubled to right-center and Caitlin Foley came on to pinch-run for the Clarkson third baseman. Kelsey Green was able to put down a sacrifice bunt to score Foley and make it 3-1. The small ball was put on hold in the top of the six as Ali Schwenzfeier hit a two-run homer to tie the score at 3-3. Three straight hits in the top of the seventh allowed the go-ahead run to come around. Dunn started things with a one-out single to left and advanced a base on a single by Lancette. Bridge's single to right allowed Dunn to score for what proved to be the game-winning run.

Lancette went 3-for-4 in the second game, and Schwenzfeier was the only other Clarkson player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3. Maggie Stark started for the Knights, pitching the first three innings, but it was Jamie Bridge who would earn the win, throwing four scoreless innings. Bridge didn't allow a hit, but allowed two walks around her five strikeouts.
